Depends on how bad the leak is, it could hurt it a lot

Yeah it will hurt your performance. I picked up a bbk x-pipe from a junk yard and to this day i still can not get it to seat right on either one of the headers. I left if on there because I liked the sound and since I'm ordering lt's and a new midpipe anyway i said what the heck. Besides smelling the gas fumes, my experience is that the car runs inconsistantly especially at idle and it makes my gas milage suck. Both problems have developed since the installation of that pipe. Hope it helps, my advice, stay away from rough used looking parts and fix whatever leak you have now.
