Ok we or at least I understand that, BUT that's not what the mechanic is saying if you read it. He says computer will go back to orginal factory settings even AFTER the performance tune is FLASHED into memory. That's how I'm reading it. I understand the original factory setting will adapt to the new simple bolt on mods after driving for a bit, it learns.

I have read a lot of reliable information about our cars having an adaptive memory. This means that If you put a mod on your car the makes for a leaner, or richer condition, such as intake or exhaust it takes, I’ve read up to 30 miles of driving time in various conditions for your computer to actually adapt to the new mod. This would also mean that you would notice a bigger, if any difference in power 30 miles down the road than the initial test run after a small mod.
Whether this all is true or not, I can not swear to on a 4.6.. But on some vehicles this is the case
