Default Im looking to get a beater...

what do you guys think about a 1996 ford taurus? Are they reliable, what tends to break on them, etc.. I would be looking to find a car for 1500 or less with 100k or less on the clock. Any other suggestions for good reliable cars to make a dd out of?

Thanks,

James

Well I am in southern florida, but seems to me a good time to get a beater before I do any serious mods to my car. What year civic, and what should I expect to spend?

i have heard that civics and imports in general tend to hold their values quite well. iono if thats entirely true or not, but i kelly blue booked my moms accord the other day, and this was the result:

1998 Honda Accord
4-cyl, auto, vtec
130k miles
good condition

right around $5000 for private party value.

Im thinking that it might be tough to find a honda/acura for $1500 w/ less than 100k on it, but good luck. hell, if you find 2 of them let me know...i could always use a beater/winter car lol.

i would be careful with a neon also though. my buddy has an 03 w/ 60k on it and had to replace the tranny already. he was told by a shop that the neon is dodges weakest/worst transmission. once again, i dont know how true that is...could just be a load of ****...the shop also said that dodge does not make remanufactured trannys for this car due to them being so weak. i thought it sounded like a load of bullhell...but i dont know for sure.

i think that taurus that you posted would be a good beater. for the price i would def. go check it out, make sure theres no probs with it though.

Just look for almost anything with a Honda or Toyota badge on it.

Do you guys insure the car the entire year., is there a "beater plan" with some insurance companies? haha. Well., going to get my Stang soon, and I was thinking of buying a beater as well., but I'd hate to pay tax and insurance every month for a car I will probably drive 3-4 times a year.
