my brother is putting a 350 in a 77 chevy, he tells me i can put a 351 in my 99 for about 3k or less and getting around 300 HP........ is this a possiblity? is it worth it?

I think my motor is going car is just a piece of junk something new every month. I just used sea foam last week and now the car will start and shut off every now and then and i still can't figure out the knocking i feel in the floor board.

I dont konw alot about motors so dont beat me up!

Anythings possible bro. A 351 is relatively big. Will it fit? Not sure. Can you make it fit? Damn right. Price? NO CLUE.

I believe there was a thread on here a while back with a new edge with a 427 Cobra Jet in it. It fit, but not sure how expensive it would be to do all the modifications.

If your motor is dying. Rebuild it. Forge it up and have a stouter motor then a 351. Then you dont have the complications.

By putting in a 351, you'd more than likely need a new hood, new exhaust manifolds/headers and either a new tranny or some kind of adapter. Basically you arent getting the full swap for less than 3 grand.

The 351 will fit with room to spare. The mod motor is physically the largest motor Ford put in a regular car (the 427 SOHC may have been a bit larger...). You'll need a tranny and the accessories, as well as a computer to control the new engine, unless you go with a carb.

The 4.6 cannot compete with a 351 for power without power adders. Plus, the 351 is MUCH cheaper to build. A 300hp 351 is very mild. 400hp is still calm and can easily be a daily driver. 500hp isn't out of the question.

Much cheaper to build? I doubt that. First he would have to buy the 351. And then he'd have to build the 351 assuming he didnt leave it in his current state. You can get a forged rotating assembly for a 4.6 for 2-3 grand--maybe less, havent looked into it in a while. Then you need all the supporting hardware for it.

And what about resale value? I wouldnt want to buy a new edge mustang with a 351...more than likely it would have been beat to hell.

I think it'd be an awesome swap though. Ive seen cars online with it done and the numbers don't lie. It's a beast. But to think you can get it done for 3 grand is insane.

+1million
if this was true evey guy who's had his car over 4 years would have done it by now...thing is the 351 is an expensive setup just as our 4.6....let's face it we have cheap cars with expensive power adders...if you want a mediocre car get a 6'er, if you want an average at best sports car get a GT, if you want a badass car get a cobra that's what it is. You cant get magical HP numbers for our cars without spending penty of money, thats wasted IMHO

This is a good question because I just bought a beater truck (85 f250) and it has a 351W in it. I was wanting to find a fox and throw the engine from the truck in it when I finish my car and no longer need the truck.
