the other day i took my car to a shop to get my exhaust tightened and this guy said i was leaking oil .. he said i was leaking oil because the seal around the crankshaft went bad... does this sound right??? i mean i am leaking oil and its really obvious but I didnt think it would be because of that seal.. do you guys have any ideas where i could be leaking oil??

What are the signs and symptoms that make it obvious it's leaking oil. Is it smoking? If so where is the smoke coming from?

From what I hear, the piston rings tend to go out on these modular 4.6's. Also, the rear main seal could be a suspect.

All rear main seals tend to leak in time. Thats probly what he was looking at.

the bottom of my tranny has oil on it and where the tranny and engine come together

That would be the rear main seal.

Mine has some oil in the same place but I am hoping it is the valve covers

How much should it cost to replace the rear main seal ? [8D]
