Default 2002gt tired of getting smoked by z28's!!!!

Hey I have a 2002 mustang gt manual. The entire thing is stock except it has flowmasters on it but i really don't know which one it has it was on the car when i bought it. But I'm personally getting tired of getting smoked by z28's and SS on the road. What is the cheapest mods i could do to my car to make it faster or at least as fast as the z's and SS. I would just get a supercharger but i don't know how to do any of my own work and I'm just a poor college student who doesn't have 3K to spend on one. Maybe later. Any help would be appreciated. It would be awesome if you could tell me what to get and where to get it at the best price and what you think would be the estimated cost off all of these mods.

I'm not trying to be a ***** or anything, so please don't think I'm raggin on you or your car. But if you want your GT to beat an SS, then you're going to have to accept the fact that you're looking at quite a bit of money. Going FI is probably the easiest way to get there though, so just start counting your pennies. GL w/ whichever rout you decide to go.

You could get gears... puts you in the powerband faster. Along with that though get a tri-ax just to maximize shifting time. Thats where I started but I havent been up against a z-28 or SS since then. I probably wouldnt try either yet anyway. Not until I get CAMS, all intake and exhaust upgraded.

Gears, gears, gears, gears, Since you have a manual get 3:73's I took off 4-5 tenths off my quarter with gears. Then I would get a pro-chamber. The gears are like $200 and intall is like $200. The pro-chamber is like $230. I beat my friendss ss all the time and he is pissed. He's got upgrades too, like mass air, ram air/exaust. He will whoop me once he gets his gears though. Nothing beats cubic inches. He had an 01 GT with 0% finnacing and sold it for like $15000 with 10,000 miles on it cause his insurance was high. When it went down he got an ss and talked $hit to me all the time sayin he was gonna woop my ***. Nope my gears put him in the dust, making him play catch up game, that never happened. The little 4.6 that could!

Ya your gonna need gears, although they wont really help you from a roll. Your starting out with about 75 less whp so good luck. Even i have trouble with those damn ls1s, they are FAST.

4.10 gears, radials and ditch the flowmasters. Race from a light, get good traction and have fun beating Z28's & TA's with far less HP than them..

True that. Have a good time. Just go from stop light to stop light though. Go much past 60, and he's going to be on you again. LOL And I happen to like the flowmasters. For the price and the sound, who cares about single digits rwhp gains by going to a high dollar exhaust setup. Welcome to the muscle car craze my friend. Look forward to seeing you on the road.

A baffled setup compared to a straight thru setup on a horribly designed y-pipe car such as yours, I'd think you'd be even more concerned about chosing sound over performance.

You're right though. I had a mean combination in my rebuilt 305 Iroc-z, minor porting and polishing along with a cam & radials, I'd absolutely violate 99+ Z's & Ta's from lights, took until 70-80 before they reeled me in. 90% of them quit after I put 2 cars on them from a light...lol I always had a blast telling everyone it was the dreaded 305 every GM fan hates dearly just beat their bigger engine. TPI is the king of torque for FI V8 cars...
