ORIGINAL: ben790450Alright guys lets break out the knowledge here. Im just thinking that instead of a 4.6 stroked out to a 5.1 and then a 4V conversion it might just be more cost effective to get a 5.4 4V. Does the lightning 5.4 have forged internals? Cant you just use cams, head, etc from a 4.6 for the 5.4? Im just thinking that a 5.1 stroker is going to have some thin walls even with forged internals and thats not good for a nitrous injected twin turbo application. . . . .. Any info would be helpful guys. Thnx
do u mean bored out, when u stroke in engine u put different cams and cranks in it to make the stroke longer
You don't change cams to stroke a motor and you can't bore .8 liters from any motor. Someone mentioned honing the block .020" and that would require boring first as honing is only the last .0005" or so.
Check out what www.karkraft.com has to offer as they have some great deals. If someone can post them I can email somebody some interesting info on some experimenting Ford is doing with the V10 in Stangs making as much as 605HP! If you can post the info email me at marksweet@webtv.net and I will forward the info to you.
ok, then how do u expect ur valve timing to be right

InTech

Lincoln introduced the 4-valve DOHC InTech version of the 5.4 L modular engine in 1999 and the 4.6L version in 2003. They both feature DOHC heads with 4 valves per cylinder. The Navigator 4-valve DOHC cylinder heads are unique to its application while the Aviator 4-valve DOHC cylinder heads are identical to those found on 2003-2004 Ford Mustang Cobras, 2003 - 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1s, and 2003 - 2004 Mercury Marauders.

The 5.4 L engine uses a cast iron engine block and aluminum cylinder heads while the 4.6 L has all aluminum construction. They are built at the Romeo, Michigan assembly plant. The InTech V8s use multi-port fuel injection, roller finger followers, and feature fracture-split powder metal connecting rods. The Navigator 5.4 L used a forged steel crankshaft while the Aviator 4.6 L used a lighter cast iron crankshaft. The 5.4 L used a reinforced plastic intake manifold while the Aviator 4.6 L used an aluminum intake manifold with variable runner lengths. The Aviator intake manifold is similar in design to the Ford Mustang FR500 intake manifold sold through Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) though construction material, runner lengths, and throttle bodies differ.

I couldnt find it either but i found this. It has a cast iron block and a forged steal crank. Pistons and rods may have to be changed because im not sure if they're forged as well but VT sells that.

Well a Crank wont really matter. A cast iron crank is pretty strong and thats usually never the part that breaks. Also the intech didnt come out until 03+...

It sounds like a fun build, but it also sounds like it would be much easier and much cheaper to just buy a cobra...

Haha never! That would be pointless becuase i will never be caught dead owning a car with IRS! Besides i want to keep my car (sentimental value you know how it goes) and just gut it out! Come on Matt these things are never easy! lol Plus any Dbag can build a 600+ hp cobra. How many guys do you know have a twin turbo 4V 5.4 . . .in a mustang? Thats unique. Difficult but unique.

Solid axle swaps are much easier than full motor rebuilds/swaps. Show me your checking account. I'll tell you if you can do it or not.

I'm going into engineering...thats not that much money I hate to tell you. The build you are looking at getting into is going to be around 20-30 grand. If you're up for it, go for it.
