Gears and Transmission Question
Can someone please explain to me how the 3650 transmission is different from the 00's transmission and why people recommend 4.10's for the new ones and 3.73's for the old ones? Before I buy 4.10's ive been driving in lower gears at higher rpms to get an idea of what it is like to cruise with 4.10's. So say if your in first gear at 4K rpms's, how does that compare to 4k Rpms in 5th gear? I know its a quieter but I don’t get how it works and why.

RE: Gears and Transmission Question
I also have 4.10's on my T-45.
The T-3650 is similar to the T-45 in quality. Neither is strong, but the T-3650 is slightly better.
When you hear about 4.10 gears, that's the overall gearing of the car through the rear differential. Each gear has it's own separate ratio also. 5th gear is a lot taller than the rest which is why the RPM's drop a lot more when you shift from 4th to 5th than from 3rd to 4th.
4k RPM in 1st gear should actually sound the same as 4k RPM in 5th gear. The only difference would be in 1st gear, 4k RPM will be a lot harder to hold steady at that RPM because of the sensitivity of the throttle. When you're in 5th gear, the throttle is not nearly as sensitive so even if you floor it at 4k RPMs you won't feel the car jerk you forward as much as if you were in 1st gear. 4k RPM is actually the rough peak powerband of our cars. By the way, if you're in 5th gear and at 4k RPM's, you are going more than 100mph...it gets pretty loud around that speed and other noises can cover up the engine noise.
BTW, 4.10's don't make it seem like you're driving a whole gear lower than the stock 3.27. The RPM difference is not nearly as bad as you think it is.

RE: Gears and Transmission Question
i dont know, sometimes you makes mods and realize crap i should have dont this or that.... i have the 3650 and placed 4.10 and almost did 4.30 but i am very glad i didnt because around here 80mph is common on the freeway and i am pushing 3k on the tack and it can get old, but it can be very fun also...... and +1 on the spoiler looks sweet, deleted spoilers make the car look like its missing something or more like a sedan or something, and of course no offence to anyone who has no spoiler, just go out and get one :0
