Default Fuel Pump?

I have a 98 GT with 92k miles on it that is pretty much bone stock besides a catback kit. Lately, when I start my car I notice that it takes literally anywhere from 2-3 seconds to start it up. This is a long time compared to the half second it used to take to start it. I figured the cars 92k miles on it and didn't really give it much thought until this morning. I went to turn on my car and it fired up but then immediately shut off. I tried starting it again and it finally started after about 2 seconds. What could be causing this? Is this electronic fuel pump going bad?

Yes, try a new filter first if you haven`t already. You can also turn the key to the on position then turn it off. This primes the pump. Then start the car. See if that helps it start any better. But 2-3 seconds isn`t bad. Im sure the pump is fine. I had my fuel pump going bad with my other car and the on/off thing with the key helped it start faster. I had to do it 3 times though. After having to do that for a couple weeks, I replaced the pump.

Well my 97GT had been giving me pullin problems and the long start up times as well

sometimes it would pull and sometimes it wouldnt when it wouldnt pull sometime the car would feel like it downshifted then when i would press the gas pedal it wouldnt raise rpms then it would just pull like crazy

the problems got worse and worse

then:
well i thought the problem was the stock plugs and wires at 83K miles so I replaced them with NGK plugs MSD wires and MSD coils

and the car was idling for about 3 minutes and then died and i havent been able to start it back up since

we tested the spark and it is great

so im gettin air and spark so is the fuel pump that finally died or what?

What do you mean by pull? Like the car wouldn`t accelerate? If so, it sounds like the fuel pump or pressure regulator if you filter is good and you have spark.

Your fuel filter. How old is it? If you never changed it that could be your problem.

If that filter was never changed, it has to be plugged up to the max by now. Change it and go from there. By never having the filter changed that can kill the pump. Could be both, but do the filter and see where it gets you. Good luck.
