i just have a quick question? how come you didnt just buy a standard car when you were looking for a mustang?? it strikes me odd that anybody would buy an auto maybe just cause they wanna cruise around but from my experience i had a 90 5.0 that was auto and i did that shifting thing and went through two trannys after that i was done with that junk! until my 98 5-speed!! my friend has a 89 convertible and he did the t-5 swap and holy $hit wat a completly different car!! i couldnt believe it that car was actually somewhat quick!

Default RE: shifting in an automatic

when I first got my license, my friends and I decided to race. Being poor, we raced in our parents cars (screaming family 4 doors), I was driving my friends (cus he was chicken) against our other friend. I thought I would be all smart and manually shift the automatic transmission. It made a bad noise, car did not run right. My friend drove it home, and without ratting me out, or saying what we did, they took it to a shop. One of the first things asked to his parents once the transmission had been looked at....

"Ever try to manually shift it...thats usually what does this....."

They got a new transmission, I felt guilty as hell (gave my friend a ride to school gas free for the rest of HS) and I never did it in an automatic again....

Sorry I don't know what they found, was 15 years ago, but you asked about "experience".
