Default shifting in an automatic

my question is on a stock tranny, is it bad to down shift in an auto. or to make it a habit to shift at all from 1st-2nd-D at all.... and for example today I was goin like 30.. and downshifted to first real quick and flored it and I hit 6k RPM's I know thats past the 5700 RPM limit but it was for a split second maybe not even..

thats the first time I have ever done that by the way.

im not thinkin thats a good idea. especially if youre doing it often. i have an auto also and was told that power shifting like that only weakens the tranny and could lead to an early drop.

lol, yea im not for sure though. i mean i have heard of people power shifting like this in other cars and it led to trannys goin out. im not sure how strong the mustang auto tranny is, but i still cant imagine that it would be a good idea.

Manually shifting an auto won't hurt it. If you want to see why, get up to 60mph and throw it in Park for a couple seconds. Heck, toss it in first while you're at it. Guess what? No harm will come to your tranny or your car.

Neutral dropping will destroy the tranny and drivetrain however.

Powerstalling will loosen the torque converter a bit, and will heat up the fluid quickly...so it's something that you don't want to do too often.

Well...it may destroy a chebby tranny, but the C3, C4, C6, AOD, etc. will not be harmed one bit.
