Default Transmission Noise?

If I am in any gear, typically 2-5, and I am just coasting, if I push the pedal more agressively(not flooring, and this is after the transmission catches), I hear a clicking noise, an almost diesel engine sounding like click as I speed up. It only makes this sound once (it doesnt go click, click, click etc) as the tranny catches up. It doesnt make it if I just ease into the gear and it only is audible at low rpms. Is this normal, or is something wrong. Its very difficult to explain what it sounds like and when it happens so forgive me if this is hard to follow.

Is there play in the transmission too? Like does it feel like you're hitting something when you do this? The only things that I think of that would click like that under torque would be an engine mount (not likely) or a transmission mount (again not likely). It could be that the transmission bumps into something underneath when it gets torqued.

No, its not when the transmission hits, and it sounds more like an internal noise, almost like gears catching.

I have the same problem in my 98, it doesnt effect performance but it get really annoying doesn't it! Mine has got louder over the past two months, it inside the tranny after the clutch. I got under mine and grabbed the drive shaft and twisted it a little and then it made the noise. I hate it but I dont want to get it fixed, I dont exactly know what it is though.

Micheal, that would probably be your u-joint making the noise.

Eventer, I would look past the noise. My GT made all kinds of crazy noises and I never had any mechanical issues on the car besides a broken tranny mount. Even my Cobra makes all kinds of weird, sometimes disturbing noises and everything is mechanically sound on the car.

Since you really have to go out of your way to make it happen, and it's only noticeable at low RPM's...especially since it's not happening under a heavy load.. I'd just quit listening for it.

Thanks everybody's reassurance. Since I am the one who paid for the car (I'm only 17), I worry about things breaking. I just dont have the money to fix things, so I like to catch problems before they happen.
