........Inorder to total a car the damage cost has to be 65% of the cost of the vehicle. I totaled my last 04 gt and at first the ins company said they were gonna fix it cause they estemated the damage to be $10,000. So when I had them send it to Ford to get fixed ford said $15,000 and the ins company totaled it.

Professionally speaking, the reason most people think airbag deployment totals a veh (especially both) is because the bags can also cause damages themselves, windshield, dash, etc, so you have that on top of an new bag system (the 600 bag is just the start)....add on top of this the usual impact required and you get the remainder of the % required to t/l. On the above, I am not positive on the 65% rule (thats the auto damage guys dept), I have had files hit my desk where the t/l occured and repair was under 65% of value, but was close to 50%.
If it is an insurance job, there is no "at cost and good labor rate" that stanger was mentioning. Its all automatic pricing. Now if you are able to keep it as owner retained and repair it than thats a different story...but then theres that pesky salvage title......
wow.....a thread I actually know enough to be a part of... [sm=smiley23.gif]
Important part is you are all right...the rest is just metal and money.

When I wrecked my 2000 GT the airbags alone were $5,700. Bumper was around $500. The only thing wrong with a mustang is how sensitive the airbag sensors on the front bumpers are. I was only going between 10 the 15 mph when they popped out. So dont feel bad. The only thing that is bad is having a screwed up car.

Federal law mandate air bags in cars newer than 1993. HAVE to put them back in to pass inspection.
As for 65% figure, that varies state to state & insurance company. As the car loses value, that figure will change accordingly depending on your area & insurance company...
I'd say that car is heading to the boneyard depending on it's value more than it's damages...

Edit: Federal law? Well maybe in NC they don't enforce that because my family has repared numerous cars that are older than 5 years old with just the fake air bag inserts. Either way you stil want them in for safety reasons.
