and just think the little 3.8 handles 11psi in stride
And just think, the bigger 4.6 handles 12. Too bad they can't tune a car.
yeah i know. the tune is the key. the 4.6 will hold more than 10psi. my friend is runnin 14 on his but on the ragged edge on the A/F ratio

I assure you the tune was fine.

The kid has been driving the **** out of this car untunned, on all the other pistons you can see detonation marks. It was on the last run where it layed over. The A/F curve was right on and on previous runs was running great, better than a 4.6 should. Made almost 400 hp before it died. Our bet is that the motor was already hurting before it came to us.

Umm sports cars aka Mustang GTs are designed to be driven umm fast and hard haha. I seriously doubt because he drove it hard that the engine went at 10lbs. I definitely would think the tune is to blame, unless he had like 100k miles plus on his car.

driving hard on a untuned supercharged car is guarenteed to damage stuff.

I would be looking real hard at the tune settings and a/f dyno before I let the shop off the hook though. If it was still running ok when it came in, there isn't alot that could have been damaged and still left the car running....

Ohh I thought he meant driving hard with no supercharger I was like wtf! LOL but yeh of course driving hard with any type of FI with a bad, or no tune is not good at all for the engine.

a tune is important on the 4.6

the singleport 3.8 with return fuel system is very forgiving. 99+'s with returnless abit less

my 98 went 40,000 miles with the 11 psi procharger using stock 14lb injectors with the procharger FMU turned all the way rich and no tune. it eventually lost compression in #6. either headgasket, cracked piston or bent rod from detonation is the result. i haven't torn it down yet. money is tight so it'll have to wait.

how could you run 11 PSI on the stock injectors? They tap out at near 100 percent usage around 320-340 WHP.

mine went out at 406rwhp with 10psi at only 10,000 miles but only had 1500-2000 on that power it was not as bad as those pics it put 2 HOLES side by side in one piston blew the rings out on 2 other cylinders and spun a rod bearing do not know what happened or what caused the detonation thats the only thing i can think of that can put holes in pistons besdies valves but it wouldve shattered like the above pics if it was valve contact my tune was good 12* of timing with 11.5-11.8 afr across the whole board so i think sh*t just happens when you make power and abuse the car yes they can take 450rwhp stock but not all motors are built equally even though the same parts are used what if they were slghtly damaged being made or installed what some can take others can only take a fraction of that i think my engine was one of the not so well built ones i am speaking of

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Ford just rebuilt him a faulty motor...
