Default transmission dummy

ok i am a transmission dummy i have no clue what all is on the inside and the different parts to make it better... i am planning on rebuilding my car in 2-3 years with a 5.4 dohc twinturbo setup but i am clueless what i need to do to a transmission to make it hold up to that... so what i am asking is what are some aftermarket parts for a tranny that could support 1500-2000 hp? this is a serious question so no stupid comments... my buddy told me to get my internals cryoed what do you know about that? thanks ahead of time just want to get my list complete so i know exactly how much this is all going to run me.

Is your car an early or late 2001 model? The reason I ask is because Ford replaced the Tremec T-45 with the T-3650 in the middle of 2001. Well that shouldn't matter anyways because you will probably have to replace the stock tranny if you want that much horsepower. Those stockers are only good for around 300hp, and even if you rebuild it, I doubt they will hold 1500-2000hp. I would look into a racing automatic transmission, but I don't know any manufacturers that make trannys for those kinda numbers. You might have to do some research man.

BTW I'm guessing you're in the Airforce, what rank are you? My brother just enlisted as an E-3.

realise that 1500 whp on even a 5.4 tt will be completely unstreetable.

At this point, there is nothing that will let the stock tranmission live. You are looking at a built automatic of some type to handle this power level.

Like I said though, realise you will not be able to drive the car on the street at all. your talking about a trailer queen only, race gas only, track only car.

Honestly you are starting off with the completely wrong car to do this. If you really want to make big numbers in a race track only car like this, you will want to go with a foxbody or something similar. You will basically need to tear the entire car apart anyway and start from the ground up (15Xx whp is gonna try to shear the unibody in two) and a pushrod is definatly the way to go on this setup.

Of course, stating that its going to take 25K+ (if not alot more) to get a properly setup car to this level almost goes without saying.

I'll have to agree. Modulars were not meant for that kind of power. They were designed for their efficiency and assembly.

ok i will take that into consideration i just love the 99-04 stangs the best... and i have seen 99-04 stangs with high horse power applications too... but if the fox would be better for this then maybe i will pick one up

If I keep my 2000 GT, my goal would be around 500-600rwhp with a twinscrew blower and all supporting mods. I'd like to keep it streetable with the stock appearance including the interior though. Is your project only for the track?

Don't take this the wrong way, but when 99.99 percent (more than that really) come on the forum and say they are gonna build a 1500 horsepower car they have no idea what they are getting into.

1500 horsepower is simply to much for the street. Its completely a track only car. Its going to break alot, and be very expensive to upkeep, let alone build.

Lots and lots and lots of money, like house down payment money, or retirement investment money.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that you have never been in a car that is making say 500+ horsepower? Even a 500 horsepower ride is pretty wild. You can leave your 4.6L in the engine bay and make 600-650 with the right parts, and thats 10 second territory. How much more do you need in a car your going to drive?

i have been in a 474 rwhp cobra and yes it is pretty wicked... maybe i will build a car strong enough to handle 1500 but no have that much hp at first... like build the engine and tranny and rear end up real well and put the twin turbo on with low boost... and as i get used to the power slowly bump the boost up... i would like it to be steetable for a while but i just manly want to use this for a track only car in the future... and i know a lot of people come on here and say they have a dream and probly never follow it but i am 85% sure i want to do this.. the only thing holding me back is thinking about everything else i could buy with that money lol
