Default Shifting

On my 96 cobra when i shift into second gear it normally grinds and gives me a hard time going into gear no matter how i drive the car, also it contantly pops out of 5 gear and reverse. any ideas on what could be the cause? some people have told me that i need to put an adjustable clutch cable in.

sounds like your transmission is going. Id have it looked at, your synchro's sound like they are gone on 2nd. This is why it grinds really bad. ANd as for 5th poping out, it sounds like the gear may be screwed up. Take it to a shop to have it looked at, unless you happen to have some experiance in tearing down transmissions

sounds like bent shift forks and bad syncro's, I would upgrade to a t56 or a tko 600 and call it a day.

It's the transmission. You can pick up a used one cheap, or upgrade. Rebuilding is almost as expensive as replacing. The only thing a worn clutch cable would affect is how heavy the clutch pedal is.
