Is this common?

Is this common?
I just got my 96' GT. The 5 spd. manual tranny works very well, and the clutch is extremely tight. Only think I noticed is that when I go to put it into reverse, it'll grind, despite the fact that the clutch is fully depressed, and the car is not moving. Sometimes if I push the shifter far to the right, it'll go in a little bit easier. Getting into any other gear is just fine, its just the reverse. Is this common on my Mustang. Perhaps I just need to get used to this tranny? Thanks...

Common on almost all stick shift cars. Try putting it into first, let the clutch out just a hair so it rolls forward about an inch, then go to reverse. That should stop the grind. I'm not positive on this one, but I don't think there are syncros in reverse.

it happens because the reverse gear is still spinning. Mine will spin for about 5 seconds immediately after pressing in the clutch and will occasionally get a little grind. As others said you can go into another gear first and then wait a few secs and it'll align itself and go in without any grind.

When i had my sho it would always grind into reverse, so b4 i went into reverse i put the clutch in and go into 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd and then reverse and it wouldnt grind. My mach1 doesnt grind at all.

I just push the clutch in and, as the tranny gears spin slows down almost to a stop, shift into reverse. If it doesn't slip in I leave it in neutral, let out the clutch so the gears spin back up, press the clutch in and as they slow down try again. I normally get it on the first try. Almost always on the second. Just my way of doing it... Come to think of it, mine doesn't "grind" going in reverse. It's just a biatch to get it to engage.
Also, reverse does have a synchronizer...
