My friend has a 2000 Acura Integra Type R. These cars are pretty quick to begin with but he has a full exhaust, lowered, rims tires, and carbon fiber hood. We raced a few weeks ago and he beat me every time. He launches better and then his vtec gets me at higher rpms. Well now he's bragging. Anyways, what would I need to finally shut him up. Cheap is better so any suggestions will work. I've read some of the other posts and so far I am guessing a timing adjuster will help but everyone that has said something about them also has a tune. My car is a 98 gt convertible with no mods other than a k&n. Will the timing adjuster really help? Will I be able to beat him under $200 or am I out of luck. Also, my trunk and back seat were pretty loaded when we raced. Does 100-200 lbs really make a difference in your launch or will that not make a difference. His car seems to slow down a little at higher speeds but my limiter kicks in at 120 mph. The Type-R's kick in a little later somewhat closer to 150. Anyways, thanks for any help.

Weight makes a big difference in racing, which is why convertibles are noticeably slower. But definitely will need to upgrade the engine and rear gears. For $200? Not likely. Up your budget a little. If you're an auto, a stall converter will also help.

What kind of improvement will I see with a stall converter? Oh and about the limiter, the rpms drop when I hit 119-120 and the speed drops to about 114-115 and then the rpms go back up and I get back up to about 120. Thought it was some type of rev limiter. Not sure what rpms it kicks in though.

yeah bro, you have the same car i do, and i don't have a limiter. your best bet is 4.10 gears. you'll see the biggest bang for your buck with those.

to beat a type r you need euro taillights, pvc pipe intake, a 4" muffler tip, some mugen and type r stickers, and a 100 shot of nitrous on a stock engine,stock plugs and not adjusting the timing accordingly and you will beat one if you cant beat him now then you must join him in hopes you will gain more power than he did

ok so no limiter... then whats going on at 120? So its looking like gears would be my best best. Any preferences of where to buy and what brand? How much am I going to be looking to spend? Anything to beat him though. I hate it that he took me because he just bought the car. I'm looking to get a cobra with in the next year but I need to beat him in the Gt atleast once. ive seen my firends 98 gt race a same type r same mods and he was stock then my friend in his 03 mustang raced him n it was a good race but top end the mustang got him the vtec is alright but what i have trouble beating r moded gsr.
