Default Car Dies Then Starts...

Couldn't decide where to make this post, but here is as good as any spot I suppose. Two days ago, when i got in my car and turned the key forward...the Service Engine Soon light came on. Its 2003 GT. The car dies on its first start, after sputtering. On the second try it starts. No problems once its running. If i kill it, it will continue to start. After it sits for a while, it dies before starting again. I'm going to bring it in this weekend, just dont have time now.

Hah, I now read the tech post that says read. Could it be the idle air controller if this happens at the start of the engine? No problems when idleing or getting off the gas. Also, would this make the service engine soon light come on?

And no, its no where near cold. I'm in southeast texas.

my car did the same thing at one time, i would start it and it would immediately die and backfire. turns out i had a bad regulator although the CEL said camshaft sensor malfunction

if your CEL is on, getting it scanned would be the first step and then we can go from there

It could be a number of things. Your first step is finding out what code brought on the CEI. You'll need a OBII scanner or a shop to do it for you.

This isn't uncommon with Mustangs. There is a sticky about this; It's likely your Idle Air Controller. I believe a replacement can be purcased for under $100.00.

I have this happen once in a while, too. No big deal though. It's more of a nuissance than a major problem, Although sometimes the engine will die while while the RPMs drop after putting it into neutral. If your engine is loud enough you'll notice though.

+1 on the IAC...
The lil thing just loves to stick. You can get a new one at Autozone for like 60 bucks. Takes 2 minutes to swap. If you don't have the cash on hand now, you can take the IAC off and clean it out with some carb cleaner. I did this the first time it started dying on me. That fix only works for a little while though.
