I'd say 4.10s are fine for you then. How LONG is the average trip? Can't be too long since the speeds are low. (Miles works better, but time works too).

the average trip to work is like 10 miles and the longest i EVER make is like 2 hours to raleigh. Unless i got to a party in ATL which is like 7 hours but that is BERY rare. now can i do the gears myself or is it better to get a shop to do them??

Get a shop to do the gears for sure. I usually keep it at 70 on the highway and average at least 20 mpg..... Not bad.

Yeah, 4.10s will be great for you then... It may make that 2 hour trip a little less bearable but for most of your driving the 4.10s won't be a problem.

It's probably -better- to have a shop do them. I've learned lately, when you get a quote for $300+ on any job, it'll take a little longer than expected The toughest thing will be shimming it right... There's some guides around online... look around and do a LOT of research before you actually attempt it. You should be able to walk through the swap in your sleep in order to have the swap go with decent speed and little frustration when you actually do it.

ORIGINAL: stangc83hey sprostang how do the 4.10s fell on a GT. I was about to buy some gears but people tell me that the 3.90 and 4.10 are too much for the mustang gt. is that true?? they also said that i would be losing 1/4 time due to shifting too much
I have 4.10's on my '99 Automatic Gt and no problem but you will be shifting more. I could have gone 4.30's with mine as I don't drive that much on the highway. mark
