Ohh Mach 460, my bad. So from what I gather the Mach 1000 basically has the two subwoofers, and better speakers, and of course, the amp to power it all.,. whereas the Mach 460 is your basic run of the mill factory 6 disc CD changer with no subs/amp. Finding the right Mustang is hard enough, and I've only come across 1 that has the Mach 1000. Being that I'm not being a brand new car, I can't hand pick exactly the options I want, I have to find a right balance (mileage, color, wheels, 5 speed, etc). How much work is it to covert a Mach 460 into a comparable system like the Mach 1000? Are the speakers inside the actual cabin the same, or is the Mach 1000 different in every way?

72Mach1~

I agree, if I do find a great Mustang GT but it doesn't have the Mach 1000 I may still buy the car. But, it would be nice to find a Stang with all the options I want and still have it under 20k miles

Depending on specific year, the mach 1000 was about $1100 (give or take 50) more.

When searching for my GT vert found none in a vert, 2 in a hardtop.

When looking for the Mach1 found none with it installed.

I have yet to see a system from the factory look that good.....

The question on the amp on a 460 had me curious, so I opened up the trunk of the Mach1 and sure enough, there is an amp as a part of the "speaker insert" (I don't know how else to describe it, there is a whole assembly)...two in fact.

Search ebay for the speakers and you will see a picture of the assembly outside of the car itself.

As for my vert, have no idea where they put the amps...and in a bit of irony my wife and I commented that the system sounds louder in my vert.

...quick footnote....

perhaps the radio stations in arizona just dont recieve well, but the difference in sound between radio and cd is incredible.

btw, the most "aftermarket" I have ever done with a stereo is take a crappy cd deck out and put in a slightly better cheap aftermarket deck, so for me the 460 is fine, the 1K would have been nice, but mostly for pointing out to people than use.

I guess I will be giving away my age but I listen to some of the loudest bands ever like Deep Purple, Blue Cheer, Zepplin, Mountain etc etc and my 460 is just fine. Any more and I think I'll go completely deaf, good luck.

I think the Mach 460 sounds okay if you don't want to push it. However, the sound imaging sucks in my opinion. Even on the "driver" setting, the tweeters/midranges don't do a good enough job. Just my opinion.

Yeah, the Mach 1000's setup in the trunk looks amazing. Still lots of space, considering the subs are on the side by the wheels. And the amp rack on the top is sweet. I'm going to look into replicating it as well as I can once I get my Mustang. I'll take my car to an audioshop and bring a picture of that trunk pic in this thread and say, "Ok make me this!" hehe. Of course, if I get really lucky I'll find one that has the Mach 1k already, but that may be wishful thinking.

1200 watts? Holy sh*t! That's nuts for a factory system. The more I read about it the more I want to get it. What's the watts on the Mach 460? I'm guessing 300 or 400.

460=460w
1000=1140w peak

guess a Mach 1140 stereo didn't sound cool, so its the 1000.

Yes it looks great (for stock) and yes it sounds great (for stock). But it really doesnt match up to an aftermarket system. With the right setup of aftermarket and about 800-1000 into it you will kick the shi* out of the mach 1000. Honestly i didnt want subs in my new stang because they get on my nerves.. mine just happend to have the 1000. But yes once again, they are amazing for stock.
