Break in time on new motor?
Ive got 80 miles on my new motor. Took 3 days lol. Ive had 3 diff opinions on break in miles. 200-1000- and just drive it like ya stole it lol. Anyone know the true break in period for this motor? And any tricks to doin it?

Well it should be more like 1000. Oil changes are like this (at least for my new engine)
Add oil non-synthetic 5w-30
Start up - run for several minutes at 2K shut off and change oil non-synthetic(5w30)
Run car 10-20 miles gradually taking rpms up but not past 3k-3500. change oil non-synthetic(5w30)
Drive car first 500 miles , change oil non-synthetic 5w30
Drive car another 500 miles, at this time you should be around 1000 miles, change oil and at this time you can put synthetic in if you wish.
That's pretty much my break in for my motor and it makes sense to me.[hr]
And whoever told you to drive it like you stole it is an idiot. Are you wanting to rebuild it again? You've got to let your pistion rings seat properly. Gee, how about you just dyno tune it right away, so it can go boom, lol.
I'd personally say stick with something like my break in. It's sensible.

RE: Break in time on new motor?
The builder of My lightning motor told me that the rings will seat during the idle period......He told me to "drive it like I stole it" but I still was leary about it. 1000 miles later I finally romped it and the truck has not looked back!!!!!
on a side note........ My buddy had a FORD Cobra motor put in his '99 Cobra. 500 miles later he was romping the hell out of it. No probs since.
Varying opinion on the "stole it" idea but I am with the ole break in period (1000 miles at least)

If you have boost, or your car produces boost, it is best to boost your car, right outta the box, since the boost seats the rings...
Then after that, you do gradual run-ups, and decent, mid-low RPM driving...
Do as is recommended for oil changes..

I generally put about 2k miles on an engine before the synthetic goes in.
How hard you can drive right away depends a lot on the clearances the engine was built with. Looser engines can take the abuse a lot quicker than a tight enigne.
