Default LongTube headers...is it worth it

i live in CA and the emission control is very stricked. i just got a smog check 3 months ago and started upgrading my 04 mustang gt's exhaust system...i've been bouncing back and forth on the headers and midpipe. Obviously i can't upgrade mids untill i choose long or stock headers. i've heard aftermarket shorty headers dont do jack s***. are the longtube headers really worth all the hassle and money? how much extra hp/tq should i expect with longtubes

If you live in Cali check to see if you will pass the visual. If long tubes will pass they are definitely worth it. They made a world of difference for me.

I am 99.99 percent sure that the LTs will not pass inspection, but you would have to check the rules to be 100 percent sure.

If your not running FI, IMO shorties are a waste of cash/time.

Like the other guy said, make sure you check on if there legal or not or you will have a 1200$ mistake! As for the power gains, i definetly noticed a big improvement up top with mine. Car pulled much harder.

How is this possible if you run a catted midpipe?

if you would have to swap out the lt's everytime you have to do emission testing they are NOT worth it.

You could get the Bassani mid-length. They are legal in Cali, but they are very pricey$$$$600. I would just get a set of JBA's make sure you get ones with atleast 1 5/8 primaries. The larger the better. I know they make 1 1/2 for the GT's part # 1615s-1 I think??? Stay away from them. You'll lose out on the top end performance, although you'll kick *** of the line! They are reasonably priced, stainless steel with ooptional coatings and they have a pattented fire cone technology as used in logtubes! It's a collector where all the primaries meet together for optimal flow. You'll achieve 5hp over any othe shorty header with those. You'll see maybe 10hp total with shorty's due to less heat in the cylinder and a little more flow out of the non-cast roughed up chambers! Plus they are legal and easy to install. Also use Percy's gaskets with stage 8 locker bolts for a leak free fit! Your looking around $450 to do it your self with all the parts. Gaskets are $35 bolts are $45
