How do I lean out the fuel mixture in my 4.6 ?

How do I lean out the fuel mixture in my 4.6 ?
I found a pic of my previous plugs and compared them to the ones in the motor right now. The plugs look soothy.
There is also that rich running smell coming from the pipes....
What is the easiest way to trick the engine control into going lean just to see how the car runs?
I will be getting a tuner soon but I don't think the tuners let you fool with idle and mid range mixture only WOT - Am I right ?
Any ideas ? I was thinking of pulling out the intake air temp sensoe and letting it sit umder the hood where it is warmer .

I'd verify your temp sensors are accurate first. I used an IR temp gun and a hand held diag tool and found 2 bad temp sensors on my '93 Explorer, resulting in a big change in how it runs...and they were only off by 20 degrees.

I'd take it to a dyno, and if its running rich, have them tune it. Easy solution.

Yes i agree, but sometimes its more complicated than that...there may be too much carbon build up in the manifold.
Either way its gotta go to some sort of mechanic.

Good point but I was thinking about it sort of backwards - first get it to run leaner than it is and if it likes the leaner condition go looking for something out of spec.[8D]
Since I had read that the 4.6 runs rich even under normal conditions I figured it was a good thing to try.
I don't have an IR thermometer but I do have an volt/ohm/amp meter and a radiator thermometer - the ones U stick in the coolant.[:-]
There are two temp sensors that I can see on top of the intake manifold. Facing the motor, one is to the left front and the other is to the right towards the rear of the motor. One is coolant temp ? What is the other one ? My Haynes manual sucks !!! [:@]
