Default After market thermostats

What benifits can I expect by changing from a stock 192 degree thermostat to a aftermarket 180 degree thermostat? By changing the thermostat will the car take longer to warm up? Any experiance good or bad, please share. Also I have a programmer to change the operation range of the cooling fan.
Thanks in advance

It wouldnt not take longer to warm up, afterall...that is the whole idea of having a thermostat..the only different is that it will fully open at cooler temp than stock one. For example, u got yours at 180F..so that means that it will open completely at 180F so it should stay around that area. The fan wouldnt change..since its a seperate sensor..the fan engages mid speed around 190 F and then full speed if the coolant reaches 200F. Personally, I took mine out..since I live in south texas..its hot all year long..no need for thermostat...and the car runs constant 180F and 190-200F with A/C on and city traffic..

oh, yeah..its not much of a performance thing....just useful if u want your engine to operate 10 degrees cooler but this 4.6 SOHC are made to operate at high temps for emissions purposes

I have a 180 degree thermostat, but I see these 330 hp performance packages coming with the 160. When i went to the parts store to buy a 160 they guy said that it is not recommended to get a 160 because it will be bad for the car. Is this true??

So is it better to stay with the stock 'stat and just make the changes with the programmer?

If you change anything, go with the FRPP pressure balanced thermostat, especially if you have a plastic crossover,

Dothack is right. Your car is tuned to run at 192 degrees. It'll run at its best when that warm. Putting in a lower thermostat won't help or hurt you really. Just a piece of mind in my opinion. I have a 180 in my car and have had no problems in the last 2 years.
