Default IAC questions

I did the IAC plate DIY, noticed a small difference in the RPM hang when i was done. Went with 10/32 hole. 9/32 was causing an almost stalling condition. When i put it all back together the first time I forgot to plug in my IAC, car started and died unless I kept my foot on the throttle (obviously). My question is, is the IAC even nessesary? Could you just bypass it and open the idle screw a little more to allow your TB to bypass air that way? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid idea. I couldnt find much info on the subject. I'm worried about running pig rich or having diverse effects. I did notice the hang was completely gone when i started it up without the IAC plugged in though. I'm trying to safely replicate that feel. Thanks.

Kinda confused on your question. What was wrong with your car in the first place? I'd some from what you've told me just keep the stock IAC on, clean it with some carb cleaner and heavy duty cue tips getting all the carbon build up and it will IDle perfect..

Reading my own question back, you're right it doesnt make much sense. I'm going to clean out the IAC tomarrow. I was just wondering if the IAC was even neccesary. My initial problem was the hanging idle. So I make a restrictor plate for the IAC as seen on mach1registry.org/forums. This helped but is still not where i want it. The only thing I accidently did was not plug in the IAC when I put it back together. This caused absolutely no hang, but obviously didn't idle. I want to try to replicate this safely. I have it pluged in right now and with the restrictor plate installed and it somewhat better. I want it more better. lol

Yeah I am having the studdering problem and I cleaned out my IAC with intake and throttle body cleaner and no help. I also changed my fuel filter. The car still studders when changing gears, dropping below 2000 rpms, and getting on the throttle. Also my rmps sometimes hang around 1500 then drop.

researching the same area (slightly different problem, I sometimes get the "shutdown" on the Mach) many have recommended not to clean it, as the IAC is not a servicable part and for very little money (I have seen people put down $35 as the cost) it can be replaced.....

My task for this weekend is to make sure the screen wasn't removed when the intake was changed, and if it wasn't, fwiw I figure I'll just buy a new one for the forty bucks or so and be done with it....
