adjusting clutch

RE: adjusting clutch
I believe that all the adjuster does is to maintain play as the clutch wears but the initial adjustement has to be right.
Basically the thicknesess and distances have to be correct. Hopefully the clutch is intended for the flywheel used and the fork, throwout bearing etc.
Taking the above for granted - the clutch should fully release before the pedal hits bottom and it should engage before the pedal is all the way up.
I don't doubt that the pedal feel will change as the clutch wears but to start off the above has to be taking place.
If the clutch starts to grab when the pedal is still close to the floor you have too much slack in the mechanism. By the same token, the clutch pedal will have to be floored in order to shift without grinding the gears.

RE: adjusting clutch
Take care of that ASAP !!!! [&:]
I just looked thru my Hayne's and Chilton manual....... There is really no adjustment mentioned.
Try grabbing the pedal with yopur hand and pull up on it. If you hear a click it did its thing.
Again, I suspect that the self adjuster is only good if the correct clutch was used and if the take up quadrant is in the right place. Still they do not mention anything about having to re set the adjuster etc.
I have heard of people taking up some of the slack by turning the rubber donut at the point where the cable enters the firewall - I've never done it personally.[&o]

RE: adjusting clutch
it now grabs right at the end of the petal range. Should I loosen the cable so theres slack then just do the adjustment procedure once and then let it do its own thing?
