Default Interior Painting

I have a '98 Cobra. I'm looking to paint the trim piece that surrounds the stereo/cd player/heat control *****. I've removed the 2 screws under the stereo, but when I pull on the trim piece, the stero and cd player seem to want to come with it. What am I missing here? Since its plastic, I dont want to pull hard and break it.....anyone done this before?

You need to pull the radio's. At least on mine you do. Get a ford removal tool (1 for each side) slide the in the unit , slightly push outward on the tool and then pull the unit out at the same time.

The CD player will come out with the trim piece, the AC controls shouldnt. There is a support piece that runs between the CD player and the radio/tape player that attaches to a bracket just behind the cd/radio players. I had the same problem when trying to remove mine, i thought it was just tight. I pulled mine until it broke the support piece [:@].

I would check with a few auto parts stores. If they sell audio equip, i would think they should have a tool to get the old stuff out.

I believe I got mine from an autoparts store in town, but can't remember which one. Autozone/Advanced Auto, one of those I believe. The tools are what is pictured. You might be able to cut a wire coat hanger and get it as well. Just make sure the cut parts are rounded/smoothed out. Sometimes you get lucky with them(what I used before getting the right tool) but they're not as strong like the tool. The number in the pic below isn't the part number. That's just from some site.

Not sure, but if it has 4 holes two on either side you can use 4 small allen wrenchs. Thats how I got the radio out of my Ranger. I didn't want to go buy a tool I'd only use once, maybe twice.
