does removing the air silencer have any bad effects, does it make the filter more vulnerable to dirt and water?

My filter turns white there quicker then the part behind the plastic cover. I guess its bc more air is sucking through there.

I would say instead of completely removing it, just cut it to make the entry larger. That way it still sucks air from the fender as opposed to the engine compartment.

I took out the air silencer today - any differences really? I was thinking of getting a K&N filter tomorrow for it.

Unless you have a 6" hose coming in from your fender and feeding directly onto your filter from under the front bumper.

So do some of the $150+ CAI's I see on the internet ..including the one on Fleabay for $50. Some of the hypocrisy cracks me up on this site. Brand or nor brand, if the cleaner is IN the engine compartment and NOT sealed off from the engine bay, you're sucking hot air.
