Poor Man's Cold Air Intake

Poor Man's Cold Air Intake
Here's a video and some photos of my "poor man's CAI" I fabricated today. I picked up a stock airbox on eBay, removed the snorkel and cut a hole using my buddy's dremel tool. Total cost was $38 and 10 minutes with the dremel. My 'Stang already had a K&N filter.
I notice that it revs a bit quicker and smoother and seems to accelerate slightly harder. The biggest difference is the sweet throaty sound when I step on the gas!

RE: Poor Man's Cold Air Intake
Well if it feels faster and sounds better, then thats awesome.
Sort of flies in the face of trying to avoid the hot engine compartment air, but hey, whatever works. $38 is much better than $200+.

Haha! I bought mine and went to do that and just noticed the guy that owned it before must have taken it out.

Previous owner saved me about 2 minutes of work

I like through the fender, the car pulls nicer on those chilly mornings. BTW, on any of the CAI's, be sure to grind the nipple for the IAC pipe on the inside of the tube. Mine, UPR was sticking into the airsteam 3/4". Every bit HELPS. What is the famous line Chip Foose's father says keep an eye out for the little details, and the rest will take care of itself. I port matched my headers, (it's amazing how much weld blocked in the ports and collectors). Ground and polished my upper intake, and other small airflow tweaks.

So do some of the $150+ CAI's I see on the internet ..including the one on Fleabay for $50. Some of the hypocrisy cracks me up on this site. Brand or nor brand, if the cleaner is IN the engine compartment and NOT sealed off from the engine bay, you're sucking hot air.
