I thought the automatic stangs had like a 4k rpm rev limiter when its in park/neutral.
naw, i rev mine to like 5500, but not all the time, only when i am going under a bridge, to hear that ROAR. but when in park/neutral, i can rev the heck out of it if i wanted to.

it is hard on an engine freewheeling the engine as we called it..this is when valve floats and rods go....as there is no load ...I'm sure the trans didn't like it....I had gone 70mph in an old gto and drunkingly put in first as the rear locks up for a sec or 2 and about a 50 foot patch of rubber is laid down and a nice flat spot on the tires

It won't hurt nothing by revving it in neutral man.

I don't know why anyone is making a big deal about it here. The motor is spinning freely, no load is on the engine. You could rev it night and day and it will last just as long as a never revved engine.

The reason they are making a big deal is the kid is revving it up high and dropping it into drive during high revs....he WILL majorly F up the transmission that way.

I didn't see that part.

Also, valve float, if you happen to over rev the engine while in neutral, then it will become a problem.

"So if your in like 3rd gear or something just cruising then you hold down your clutch and revv it, it will do more damage to your car? "

You are burning your clutch by doing this: terrible for the tranny. If you rev in neutral every once in a while just to show off then its ok, but dont do it too much.
