Tuners..2003 GT vs 2005 V6
I'm a new 2003 GT Vert owner and was wondering..........
How do the 99-04 4.6L respond to tuning as compared to say the 2005+ V6 models?
I've been reading the 2005+ V6 forums and it seems like these guys are getting some serious performance
increases with just a tune and a CAI.
Do the 99-04 models (GT) respond as well to this combination or is this just a waste of money for these models?

You'll get next to nothing out of bolt-ons for a 99-04 GT... the heads are the most restrictive part, yeah you can increase the airflow everywhere else but in the end you're still trying to blow air through a coffee straw.
I'm not so sure if the 4.0 will be much better. It doesn't feel too restricted when riding in it but it's very possible because they're made for gas mileage. For starters you've got 265 HP with the 4.6... 220-230 with the 4.0, so you're 30 HP behind. The S197 body is heavier than the SN-95 making you slower again, the V6 won't have a limited slip differential, the v6 won't have the sound of a v8... plus, the 05 will be more expensive.

You've listed the main reasons why I went with the 03GTvert I purchased over the 2006/7 V6..
Reading the forums it seems that the 05+ V6 benefits greatly from a CAI and tune, maybe just to improve the throttle lag with the fly by wire system, I don't really know.
I think I'm going to leave my 03 stock for now and do some more research.
I'm just looking for little improvements, no racing or anything like that.
TIA!

Steve I bought a '99 GT vert back in June. I spent $2430. in bolt on mods and took off about .5 from the 1/4 time and added about 6mph to the same.
1. 4.10 gears-Good mod
2. JLT CAI-Good mod
3. Exhaust-good, not worth the cash
4. UDP's-$179. so not too expensive for little return
5. 75mm BBK TB & plenum-not much
6. Brenspeed custom tune SCT tuner.
Now it is spinning the tires too much to get an accurate measurement of mods. Even with 315/35's in the rear any kind of power launch just breaks them totlly loose. The drop top makes it worth it for me. Maybe a hugh 13 at 102mph. Since I have an automatic a converter with more stall and some suspension work with good tires would get it closer to a 13.5 but the 1/4 is not my thing. Mark
