Default 5w20 vs 5w30

My car calls for 5w20 to be used, but while at my local Walmart I noticed that the 5 quart Mobil 1 synthetic was on sale for 19.99 so I coudnt pass it up. Will using this cause any damage to my car's engine? Secondly I have heard of people using tranny fluid to flush the engine. Any experiences/thoughts?

5w-30 can be used in the place of 5w-20. The difference will be in mileage.

As for using ATF to flush an engine, I have successfully done that a couple times. Basically, you substitute 1 quart of ATF for a quart of motor oil. You'll want to change the oil after a couple hundred miles.

A better idea is to use high quality oil and change it as recommended by the oil manufacturer.

I second that. With the HOT Kansas summers, 5w-20 just burns right up. I run 5w-30 in the summer with no problem.

So is there any benefit from flushing the engine using 1 quart of ATF in the oil or is it dangerous/waste of time? BTW my car just hit 27 k on the odometer.

Just use seafoam. It does the same thing except better.

It wont damage anything.. but it wont really protect much either. They call for it to get the advertised gas mileage of the modular motors.
