Hahaha, no man, you don't have to get fuel all over you.

If you depressurize the system right you should only have a small amount of fuel remaining inside the filter itself, which will pour out once you separate it from the line. What I do is separate one side and then let the fuel drip into a dry rag, separate the other side and repeat. As long as you're not underneath the side you are separating, you should only get a small amount of fuel on your hands.

If you get a gas bath, you made a mistake.

Pull the back end up on ramps. Unplug the gas cutoff switch in the trunk. Turn on the engine and let it run until it dies. This may take a minute or less. Unplug your positive battery cable. Have at it!

When you're done, reconnect the fuel cutoff switch and your positive battery cable (after you wash your hands!!!). Turn the car to the on position, but don't start the car, to get some fuel back in the lines. Turn off, then start the car.

As always, check for leaks. Fuel filter is easier than an oil change.

ORIGINAL: pallidamors

Does the fuel filter have to be replaced every 10k miles like the write up says? Mine is original and I have 27k miles on her and Im wondering if I should change it
manual says every 30K
