Howto/FYI : Installing Guages
Hi guys,
The prolly belongs in the Audio/Electrical but I figured this would come in handy in the 4.6 section. I wanted to install my gauge backlights to come on at night instead of 24/7. So what I did was the following
1). Removed the headlight **** using a screwdriver, just slide the clip forward (toward the back of the car) and pull, it comes right off.
2). Remove the two screws holding the gauge dash panel in, they are torx, forget what size
3). Then removed the two bolts securing the light switch assembly.
4). The blue / white wire (leftmost wire in pic) is the wire that gets power when the lights are on, simply cut and crimp this with the power wires from your gauges (white) and run another wire for the ground (black), the easiest way to install the ground is to either find a bolt in the sheetmetal to ground them on or drill a small hole in an inconspicous part of the body (behind the drivers kick panel is good) and install your own bolt/screw.
Here's a pic of the wire in question. The nice thing is you can turn on/off the back light and the dimming of your lights works as well.
