Transmission Fluid Change
Anyone know of any write-ups on how to change the transmission oil from an 03 automatic? I just crossed the 60K mark and the manual says to change it out. I was thinking Royal Purple fluid cuz I've heard lots of good stuff about it...
any thoughts?

RE: Transmission Fluid Change
I just did the change in my manual. I was looking for royal purple but napa only had the amsoil, so I used amsoil ATF. My t-45 shifts like butter with it. I dont know about a write up for the auto tranny, but if you cant find royal purple fluid the amsoil is just as good...

RE: Transmission Fluid Change
I don't know about any write-ups about it, but I have Royal in my '01 auto, and it shifts nice and smooth. It seems to want to shift alot in and out of OD when trolling along below 50mph, so I keep the OD off except for freeway speeds.

Follow-up: Transmission Fluid Change
I brought my car down to my local shop and had them do a transmission fluid flush and then fill it back up with royal purple. I also had them change my oil with royal purple 5w20 synthetic....and between the two, Im not sh*tting you guys, my car (auto) shifts smoother and seems go smoother through the whole powerband....I dont know that I gained HP like youre supposed to with royal purple, but I feel a considerable difference. The Trans fluid flush took about 10 mins with a machine they had, and ran me like $128, but I recommend that anyone with an auto transmission get it done. (especially since manual says new fluid after 60K miles...)
thats my two cents...

RE: Follow-up: Transmission Fluid Change
I just went to NAPA and bought enough Royal Purple to refill the tranny after the filter had been changed. About 8 quarts or so. Took my Ford tranny filter and the Royal Purple to my favorite shop and told them to change it. It can be a holy a$$ mess to change yourself. They may have charged me all of $50 to make the change. I supplied all the parts and fluid. Royal Purple is great stuff. I use it in the engine, tranny and rearend.

Edit: Actually, to catch myself before someone makes me look dumb... apparently the auto takes a LOT more if you have that. I never realized, in that case the auto takes like 13 quarts total capacity. Maybe I should learn more about transmissions before I comment from now on haha.[8D]
