Default Change of gears...dropping time?

Ok. Figure a 1996 GT Convert with approx 300 wheel horse( last pull was 280 but have done a few odds and ins since) On a dead hook pass it went 13.7 with a t45 and 2.73's. As of tomorrow it will have 3.73's what can I expect out of another dead hook run.

well I'm hopeing it wont go more than 13.7...although I'm sure it will my first few passes due to tirespin. Also just a ? with the vt stage 1 cams and pi swap where should I start looking to shift. Currently I am shifting at 5900..... should I push it or not with the gears...even though it really wont effect the shiftpoints. It has a custom tune so we can go higher if we need too.

Shift when the power starts to fall off.

"<13.7" is read as, less than 13.7. It will be quicker, assuming you can drive the gears.

His first comment was sarcasm, of course it will go less than 13.7 so "<13.7" isn't really what he was looking for, I would assume maybe 13.5's

When I went from 3.27's to 4.10's I picked up only a tenth. For the thread starter I would like to know what you have done to get a 280HP dynop pull and even get a 13.8 with 2.87's? Impressive! Mark

for ur first time out there with new gears I wouldnt be too confident on the lost time. When you get gears, espcially 4.10s you got to relearn how to drive your car. Traction becomes more of a issue now so less traction=worse time

I have a pi swap with the heads ported by a local machine shop, vt stage one's, #30 injectors, tune ( custom by my shop), full bolt on's( yes everything), diamond pistons (comp ratio of 10.1:1), Long tubes, full off road exhaust, rebuilt t 45, centerforce dual friction, and a few more small mods, and it's 2.73's not 2.87's. I ran it on BFG DR's.....really I was disapointed with the numbers. The torque wasn't what I thought.... I have to find the sheet on it for an exact # but it was around 325 which i found kinda low. I just hope the butt dyno likes the new gears. The best I have ever run was 13.7, but it does go consistant 13.8s I really hope to do better soon..... I haven't even got it back and I kinda wish I would have gone 4.10's, but I think a supercharger is in the short future for it. I am also thinking about going with a set of patriot heads and scrapping my romeos ( more like selling), but I dont want to drop the money on them for only a few extra hp. Also, I am looking at a new manifold, but I hear the typhoon is crap, and the buillet is freeking expensive. I think trick flow just made one so I can't wait to see the numbers on it.

With those mods, with a set of 4.10's & traction you could get into the 12's with some practice driving. You'd be surprised how much your trip down the track will change with gears.

Well its only 3.73's and no traction...so I'm guessin well go 14.5. But really I am proud of this car, and alot of 60 hour weeks pay has gone into it. I am just 20 and I have loved mustangs since I was 3 and got a matchbox Boss Stallion car, so I like to think I'm 17 years strong with love of the horse. I really want to spray it with a wet shot next spring and see what we can do....the only thing is it is my only car, and I dont want to blow the motor. I'm going to buy some POS 88 corolla and paint it pink with lime green racing strips....krylon of coarse....oh and a coffeecan exhaust ( yes a real folgers can) and a Vtec sticker, so if i do hurt my baby I can still get to work in style!
