Default 160 Degree Thermostat?

Would a 160 or 180 degree thermostat be beneficial for a 2V 4.6 ?

Only if you consider using more gas and not gaining any power beneficial.

You won't even notice a difference in gas with a 180, with a 160 your car will run funny when trying to heat up and your gas mileage will be a little more noticeably affected. Don't get the 160, it'll screw with the emissions. If you need a thermostat, get a 180. If you don't need one, don't bother.

I lost 2mpg with a 180* and the canned tune for the 180* stat. Yeah, I noticed it. You can retune a computer to work better with a 180, but it isn't really worth it (even on the carb'd cars this doesn't offer a huge benefit with a good cooling system).

I've been running a 180 for 2 years and I still get 15 around town and 24 highway.

I run a 195 in my car no problems but I got a lot heavy work generally the hotter temp you run the more efficiant your car will run but don't go over 195

haha took mine out..i didnt want it since that is where my original air intake broke when i bought the new one with alumunum crossover, i was like **** it, i aint using a thermostat anymore besides i dont need it much here in south texas which is always hot all year long... i hasnt notice any fuel mileage impact..maybe since the engine takes longer to heat up so it runs higher than its normal idle to keep it going but nah, i rather loose an extra 1-2 MPG than my engine overheat

Wrong. You will not use more fuel. You will not gain more horsepower but the power you have will be more efficient compared to a 195 degree thermostat.
