your install is fukd up - take it back immediatly - the gear maybe severly damage from 20 secs of back lash that bad - he may need to buy you a new set of gears and install for free - he shouldnt have broken the sensor is he didnt know what he was doing - as far as the bearings go - only a dumbass tech would say he would do a gear w/o new races and bearings neway - if thats what the deal was then you got played and need make him fix it now - or youll report him to the better buisness association - and consider legal action against him

The sensors are like 1 torx bolt, then slide out.
Yea you're right, I just need a set of external torx sockets, the inverted kind though (female).

Hmm well I'll see what I can do. If I just replace the bad sensor, will the ABS light go out? Or am I going to have to find the diagnostics port and clear the codes before the ABS light goes out?

Now I just need to diagnose which sensor it is that's bad... assuming it's not both.

..can anyone get me a price on that sensor?
It's about $70/sensor from a dealership, that's the only place I've checked so far

Wow, I am really upset over this. I mean I am just a poor college student and can't afford to part ways with 70 dollars. I know that seems like nothing to most of the people on here, but thats food for me for a month. I work just to support my stang and insurance, and the extra labor cost hurt but not as bad as a careless mistake. I want to give him a chance to make it good, afterall he did lose his brother in Iraq about 6 months back... for that alone I feel for his family. I talked to my mom on this one, and she is a shrewed lady.....afterall she is the only person I know of who has sued the IRS...yes the government part....not the cobra, and won. She thinks it's a pretty ****ty deal and offered to get in touch with the BBB for me. I am at a loss here..... I have a friend who works for ford for the better part of 20 years, and I plan to confrence with him tomorrow to find a solution.

Tell me if he offers up any solutions. Poor college student here as well.

I was just browsing around and found the ABS sensors that I think we need for $40-$50 from Rock Auto

I don't know if it's gonna be the same for your 96, but just go to their online parts catalogue and navigate to your car and look under the brake/wheel hub category, the ABS wheel speed sensor ought to be there...

Break it down this way, the ABS sensor---His fault, he sould fix it.
The extra 1.5 hr. his fault again, he should know that gears DON'T come
with the bearings installed.
The gear whine--again his fault for not setting them up properly.
Although some brands of gears are noisier then others, if its when you
let off the throttle, then their not set right.

I know this has been said already but how the hell did the mech. not figure in installing a new pinion bearing, and why would it take him and extra hour and half to do that.[sm=smiley21.gif]
Definatly get them to fix it.
