your install is fukd up - take it back immediatly - the gear maybe severly damage from 20 secs of back lash that bad - he may need to buy you a new set of gears and install for free - he shouldnt have broken the sensor is he didnt know what he was doing - as far as the bearings go - only a dumbass tech would say he would do a gear w/o new races and bearings neway - if thats what the deal was then you got played and need make him fix it now - or youll report him to the better buisness association - and consider legal action against him
+1 thats BS. You shouldn't have to pay for the sensor cause he broke it. If you have gear whine you need to take it back as soon as possible before they get groved.

I had a mustang shop near here that totally Fed up my gear install and refused to fix them. Lots of whinning. So now I won't let any of my friends take their cars to that shop. I will do whatever that shop does for half the price for my friends so they don't get their cars messed up. I had to pay an extra $100 to have a good mech re set the gears. By the way for you guys in the Nashville area the shop was Delk.

A little gear whinw should not be a big issue. My 4.10's have a small bit of whine between 40 & 50 MPH and have a few thousand miles on them, no problems.
Used synthetic right from the start. One thing is I would do is be sure that 85w-140 was used as Ford changed the spec and I used 85W-90 so that may account for some of the whine I have.
This mechanic is trying to make more money from his mistake. Also a 1.5 hour charge to change a pinion bearing? Excessive.
Sounds like your mom is like mine was when she was younger. She had a saying of "I'm going to lay them out in lavender". Lavender was the popular color for the inner material of coffins that era!
I can't make the call on the gears but if the whine is like a whistle and not a howl I would not worry. Mention the 20K members of this forum that are hearing about his "work"! Mark

Your backlash set is no good. It needs to be fixed....

The ABS sensor should be paid for & replaced by the shop. BBB will be a good idea AFTER you try to solve the dispute with them.

I got them installed at Injected Racing in Springfield, Mo. They are going to get thier chance to make this right, and we'll go from there. I am a servive tech at walmart, and anything break we pay for. One time is was zipping off a lug on a ford escort and the stud came right of with it....obviously this was most likely a preexisting condition, but we didn't hesitate to take care of it. Never the less I still felt like a jackass after it was done. The are reportedly a good shop, and have done some big projects... ( like the bigggg turbo terminators). Its my only stang shop around, so I hope it goes well.

If the gears are whinning, its most likely a backlash issue, or not properly shimmed. Take it back have them reset the clearances.
They screwed up the install, make them redo it for free.

Not to mention the ABS sensor, wtf? They should pay for that as well.

Whats the name of the shop?

properly installed gears should`t whine. I`ve had gears from 3:73 through 5:14 in different vehicles over the years, without gear whine. The shop should pay for their mistakes.

i agree that this is not right. the gears are inproperly installed, and should be corrected by the shop. it was his labor that cause the ABS sensor to break, so he should replace that as well.

Add me to the list of folks who think you just got robbed..

My rear diff was screwed on the initial install, and I had all sorts of backlash issues, I kept bringing it back to them and they kept saying it was okay. This was after they had my car for almost a month... Come to find out, 20k miles later, that they never even shimmed most of it, so the bearings were trashed, and there was a minor amount of crowning on the gears..

Although Ring/Pinion gears are pretty tough, it really should be checked sooner, rather than later, since now the onus is on you.. The more damage present when they crack it open again, the more they can just disprove your words by saying you beat on the car...
