Got gears in.....kinda pissed!
Ok, so i go to get my gears installed and its all cool. Except now when i let off the gas i hear a whizzing from the rear, and the shop broke one of my abs sensors on my car, and now i have to buy a new one. Not to mention i got charged an additional 1.5 hours that we didnt earlier agree on bc he had to install a pinion bearing. Overall Im not very happy. How much is that sensor gonna cost? Please help

The sensor shouldn't be too expensive... did they bust up the exciter ring or just break the sensor trying to get it out? I'd say under $60 for the sensor. Exciter ring? $5 if that even.

If the gears are whinning, its most likely a backlash issue, or not properly shimmed. Take it back have them reset the clearances.
How the hell did they break an ABS sensor. Thats negligence there should be no reason to break that.

The guy who did my gear install did a great job on the gears, but he also broke one of the ABS sensors, just like what happened to you. The guy told me he would fix the ABS sensor(s) at $100/sensor, supposedly that's without labor. He could have broken both of the sensors, or he could have just busted one... so... I'll probly just take it back to him sometime, its just that I know 100 bucks per sensor is wayyy too much. He's obviously including his labor in the costs of the "parts."
I took it to a ford dealership too, they said about $80-$130 to diagnose, $70 per sensor, and $80 labor. I walked out the door. I gave some thought to doing it myself, but I don't have the tools to get the sensors out, and I don't have the ABS diagnostics tool so I can clear the codes...
Sorry I can't help ya. I just have the same problem, no solutions.

Its a 1996...can anyone get me a price on that sensor? I really am furious....... so will this whine go away with time? also is it ok to put a synthetic gear oil in the rear at first with a new differential, or is this a recipe for trouble?
