Default Cams??

Hey guys. I'm new to your site and mod stangs. I'm wanting to put cams in my car. The car is not a daily driver so I'm wanting to go as radical as possible. I'm not a racer. I enjoy driving it around town and cruise ins. I'm looking for the best sounding cams for my stang. Any help on brands and sizes would be great.

Careful... I just ruined a perfectly good set of valves and maybe much more becuase I put Comp Stage II (XE-270AH) in my 96 GT w/PI head swap) without degreeing the cams. Anything more than mild you must either use fly cut pistons and/or degree the cams or else you end up like me.... driving my Saturn every day

A really nice set of cams with a sick lope is Crower st 2 NA...The VT st 2 are also nice but the idle isn't as choppy. St 3's are just too aggressive for the mods you have now.

The PI swap was your problem, not the cams.

You don't want any more than stage 2 cams on a bolton only car.

How was the PI swap the problem?

No, I did the PI swap months ago and ran Stage 1 cams (XE-262AH) for several thousand miles. I got bored and swapped them out for the stage 2 (XE-270AH) and it was then I got PTV and thrashed my valves.

On a PI head swap: Piston to valve clearence, Stage1 good. Stage 2 or above not good.

Doing a PI swap has nothing to do with what cams you can or can't run in regards to PTV. If you get PTV is 100% due to poor installation ie; not degreeing the cams. Comp is also notorious for grinding in 4 degrees of advance and that in conjuction with the stock timing gears being off as much as 6 degrees can give you 10 degrees of advance and cause PTV...thats why you should degree your cams.
Here is a picture of a 2V piston that has been notched for valve clearance. Notice where the notches are cut...on the perimeter not in the dish...this is where the 2V makes contact. So it doesn't matter if you have NPI/PI or 30cc dished pistons cause the contact is on the outside flat spot not in the dish.
