sometimes pulling out that screen will make the air flow differently and will cause some idle problems. I looked at my stock one when I replaced it and it didnt have one either.

I removed mine in my 88 Iroc-z. After 2 years of it being out I never had any trouble.

isnt it there just to direct the air in a more uniform flow? densecharger told me to take it out, and i havent had any problems sense.

should be fine to take it out. most likely the only place your are going to see any bad effects is on a a/f sheet. just puts u a lil closer to running lean wich gives more powa.

Yes, I mean the screen, not the filter.[quote]

I think the screen is there to normalize the air sample at the meter. There's a hi probability without the screen the you'll have turbulence at the meter to affect the reading and then it's anybody's guess as what that would do to your A/F ratio. Still, people are doing it with no (KNOWN) probs. Maybe a little lean at this RPM and ambient and not at the other. Probably could even depend on the type of filter and whatever that you have in your air intake system. I am going with densecharger and since they say to take it out I will take it out. If I were staying stock, I would NOT take it out personally. I think that I read in MM&FF where they took the screen out of a stock Mach1 and ran lean and put it back in cuz they lost 8hp. Granted the Mach1's intake system is much different that the GT. In summary, removing the screen CAN affect your air meter reading but nobody can really predict the results. (I mentally picture a little vortex tornado swirling around your meter and your meter trying to guess the values on your air density to send to the computer). Some cars like my '99 Ford countor 2.5DOHC didn't even come with a screen but other owners reported that their's did. What a mystery.

I think most aftermarket CAI's tell you to leave the screen out anyways.
