MAF screen

Has anyone tried removing theirs? I saw in Mustangs magazine it can be good for 7 or 8 rwhp but could have drivability issues for on the street. Going to the track tommorow nite and its going to be good weather for a change up in the Northeast like 70 degrees no humidity and I am thinking about trying it, anybody do it ? Did it help or hurt? I heard the car runs leaner and I have my timing max advanced but running 94 octane hope its safe.

i highly doubt removing the screen will lean it out, the whole purpose of the maf is to read the air going in. ide just worry that if your filter fell off, large debris could potentially get inside your engine without the filter.

I took mine out (be sure to replace the rubber gasket) with no problems and +1 mpg.

I think he is talking about the screen in the MAM, not the filter itself, right?

yah the screen it looks like a strainer. well depends on your car if it will run ok. but i would say for safty sake. get a new maf thats calibrated for not having the screen.
my C&L system works with out the screen.

i took mine out a week ago, i've experienced no problems whatsoever. it gained me a little more pep, it feels smoother at 3000+ rpms.

i posted a thread here a week ago on this very same topic, look it up, there was some good advice in there. 1) disconnect your battery for 20 minutes so the computer resets itself, 2) make sure you remove the rubber gasket from the screen and put it back in the assembly (without the screen o course).

if instructions for aftermarket parts say to take out, then take out. otehrwise, leave it in.

Your sig says you have BBK CAI? Don't they work without the screen anyway?
