Has anybody ever changed out the rear wheel studs, and if so how do you do it?

Never done it on a Mustang, but it's pretty straight forward for most solid-axled cars.. You pull the axles, grab a hammer, and beat them out. They should come out easily w/ a good sized hammer...
As HRnB mentioned, you just get the lugs on tight, and the combination of hub, wheel, lugs, and some muscle, they seat themselves back in the hub..
Obviously, the hardest part about doing the longer wheel studs, is getting the axles out and putting them back in..
Only other problem is, if you decide to get rid of your wheels for something bigger, or to sell it, you're going to have to figure out what to do w/ the longer studs.. Cut them, or remove them again?

No space required. It is just a looks wish and waste of money. You will eventually get bigger or different wheels. just deal with it until then
