Rust on convertible top

Rust on convertible top
I got my 2000 convertible GT 3 days ago. I noticed there is some rust on the black metal bar that directly connects to the frame of the car where the weather strip is. Does anyone else have the same problem? What can I do about it?

RE: Rust on convertible top
I've got '96 ragtop, and I've not found any rust. Then again, I'm not sure where your talking about. Are you talking interior or exterior? I thought at first you might mean the front head rail where the top joins. Then I got to thinking you might mean the interior supports in the rear.
Regardless, sand and paint is the solution. If it's interior though, you need to be looking for the cause...leak that is.

What I did was to sand and spray paint with a rust resistant paint. It got on the edge of the top a bit but it is fine for now.
