RE: pro's and con's of gears
Drake youre absolutly right people drive like maniacs round here , Im one of the worst ones. If I dont hit 110/115 at least once a day I start gettin the shakes and feel nausious [:-].
40thgtfl, it depends on your rim and tire also, my buddy with his 3.55 turns 2800 @ 65. So unless we can take overall tire diameter in to account, all of our specs will be just guesstimates. And if youre going by the gear calculator the thing is wrong, I used it to calculate the fastest Ive hit in my car (5750 rpm in 5th), it said that I was going 203.3 mph . It doesnt take wind resistance in to consideration, or drag caused by the tires etc.

What are you guys talking about ...
Pros ... You will have quicker acceleration .. you don't have to start out of 1st ever if you don't want to .. which makes daily driving alot easier with one less shift...
Gas Mileage.. non issue .. I've been driving with my 4.10 in my car have have not noticed a change... well ok .. I lie .. with the 4.10 I love to get into alot more .. it just has that extra bite.. and that led foot will lead to lower MPG .. but thats the only reason ..
4.30 .. Wouldn't recommend on something that you drive around town everyday .. part of the reason my truck sits parked quite a bit with its 4.56's and 150 shot ...
All in all you'll regret going wtih anything other than a 4.10 ..

the 3.73 vs 4.10 arguement. i had 3.73s in my gt and thought they were a great improvement over stock. and freeway rpms werent bad at all. im going to get 3.90s for the mach since the redline is much higher.

Dude, I knew how to drive before you were a gleam in your daddies eye. Im not saying that loss of control is inevitable but A LOT easier, I only said this because Ive known kids from HS, that wrecked their cars in the snow around here after they got crazy steep gears.
In MA. what is your speed limit on the E-way? Here its 70, which only out of state people do, MI drivers usually drive faster than that, a 4.10 at 90 -100 youd be spinnin 4500 (just a guesstimate), I wanna see 21mpg @ 4500 rpm out of a v-8. And as this guy said he barely goes to the track and usually cruises at 85, 4.10 = poop at 85.

funny, my buddies 99 (t-45 not t-3650) had 4.10s in it, first gear, while short, was still there, gas milage, eh 21 on a 150 mile round trip, loss of control, learn how to drive

Pros of a 4.10 - IMO, none.
Cons - No first gear, worse gas milage, increased loss of control in poor weather conditions, more wear and tear on the motor and drivetrain as a whole, shorter tire life (as traction will become an issue witha 4.10).

also dont forget, the 96-01.5s had a T45 tranny with a .67 5th gear, 01.5-07s have the t3650 tranny, 5th gear is .62

so for someone with a 3650 that doesnt do much freeway driving at all....4:10s would be a good choice? Or step it down to 3:90s or 3:73s?

yup, the con will be you will be kicking yourself for not going 4.30s with the t3650
So pick what you are comfortable with. Everyone wants something different. I'd say find a good combination that does what you want it to do.
But if you want some quick acceleration and bite, I'd say my 4.30s do that quite nicely. I was gonna change em, but dunno if I want to now.
