that would be a waste on a non boosted 4.6 jd. there is alot more that 2k would get you.

what the heck do you know about boosted 4.6's?

well, BC it wasnt a waste on your car because you were doing a headswap anyways, but in general yes it is a waste IMO to pay for ported heads to pickup what, 20 hp? for another $400 you coulda got a vortech tuner kit and added 100hp... but I wouldnt be suprised if you picked up close to 100 hp with ported PI heads + cams over your stock non-pi stuff.

cams alone will put you over 300 jd, something like VT stage 1's would be best with your stock heads and would add 25-30 rwhp after you got them tuned.

Yeah, Im still trying to wait on doing any inside work till I decide on going FI or staying NA. I wanna do FI but Im trying to wait till im out of the military so I can do it right, like tearing apart the engine and building it for FI. I want a badass ride and I wanna do it the right way.

as always, your pretty much right. it isn't worth the 1500-2000 to pay a shop to rip your heads off, port them and put em back on for maybe 20 hp on an N/A bolt on car. just wait till your putting a shortblock in or something and then do it. most olt on non pi GT's barely put 200 to the wheels, so yes i gained about 100 hp on the swap. if i had a 99+ GT, i would have just put an S trim on it.

a non pi (96-98) motor benefits from a PI head swap with increased compression. the PI heads have a smaller combustion chamber, wich on a pre 99 block increases compression to about 10.5 to 1, as the 99+ are 9.4 to 1.i broke 300 because the heads are ported with oversize valves, the cams of course and i have alot of bolt ons. upper intake, TB, L/T headers etc.... if i had thrown in a set of 24lb injectors and the motor been a bit cooler, she would have done at least 310. i intend to add those along with a few more items to up it, if i don't put a new shortblock in it first.
2000GT4.6, with a good set of cams, like VT stage II, most 99+ guys are hitting 280-290 on the stock heads. with full bolt ons and a good tune of course. the most i've ever seen in an N/A 2V displacing 4.6 cid is 334. and he runs 11.3's.

Also what I am saying is that you not only have a set of aftermarket cams in there, but machined heads. I would expect with machined heads and cams to be producing much more than 300 RWHP.
I am starting to think that cams really arn't worth the trouble on a N/A 4.6L. I am really thinking that working the heads is compeletly not worth it N/A, but of course you already had them off anyway. I guess that would make the big decsion for yoi. If only superchargers didnt cost 3500 dollars.
