Not nessesarily. You want the car to beable to squat. If they are too stiff not as much weight is applied to the rear tires.

Before:
After: front adjustable coilovers with adjustable tokicko shocks set to their lowest setting(shocks are on their hardest setting), rear steeda coils and tokicko shocks(also their hardest setting). I tend to scrape my midpipe on speedbumps, also if the entrance to a parking lot is steep i scrape the chin spoiler, and also sometimes if im not paying attention(or my GF isnt) its easy to pull up onto the concrete stoppers in front of parking spaces

Air Ride Technologies 4-way Air Ride. No coils. All bags with lowering shocks in rear.
Get air ride then you can adjust smoothness and stiffness all day long, raise it for bumps, lower it for parking and driving. All good stuff. It rides great also.
