Default Exhaust question...again

Well, I was thinking about getting a new catback exhaust but after thinking of other things I can better spend my money on, I'm wondering if it's even worth it. Maybe just gonna get stainless black chrome tips...

Right now I have flowmaster series 40 mufflers (NO catback). What HP gains would I look at if I converted it to a catback. Would it be much louder? Sorry for the lame question, just wondering.

I surprised noone else has asked this. This is my opinion, but, other than for looks, why not remove the stock mufflers and weld in new ones? Performance should not be lost. The pipes are the same, right?

If your basing your decision on sound... then I have an entire thread on that probably on the 2nd page right now for the 4.6 section. I've got quite a few clips from different exhaust systems so check them out and listen to some of them. You not gonna gain much power with a catback on the 2V's. Could be anywere from 1-10 HP I guess if your lucky. Choose mostly for sound.

I think he is asking what is the dif between stock pipes with Flows and a full Flow catback. I don't think there is one. They are both 2.5" mandrel bent tubing. I would just get some nice tips and put the rest towards an H or X pipe.

What is better about an aftermarket H pipe vs. the stock one (assuming you keep cats on it)? Are they bent differently or something?

No cats > High flow cats > stock cats

H vs. X = sound preference

a cat back will sound slightly different then just weld in mufflers. they are the same diamater howerever they have slightly different angles. if u ask your self if its worth it prob not. i still and finding stuff to buy that gain me more benefit that a cat-back.

I thought the stock piping was 2.25 and aftermarket is 2.5

someone please correct me on this.

some cars can get 3inch piping if they have alot of HP.

So, yes an aftermarket catback will allow better airflow, but not much improvement you'll feel.
